Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
It's the perfect time to get outside and use the world around us to create beautiful and fanciful fairy houses to display.
In this one week course (which meets 3x) we will learn about fairy houses, their history and why people make them. We will come together to brainstorm ideas for our very own fairy houses and the materials we can use in nature to make them. Finally, we will construct individual fairy houses and explore them together.

During this course your student will be using various subject and content areas when designing their fairy houses. Through conversation, math, science and history we will cover many topics while also having fun. Think: architecture meets design, meets art, meets math, meets public speaking! It's sure to be a great time for all.

Your student will be guided by the teacher to make discoveries and share them as a group. Students will also work independently with the guidance of the teacher when creating their own houses both inside and outside of class time.

Day 1: Discuss the history of fairy houses and talk about what we know and like about fairy houses. Why do we want to make one?
We will also look at various fairy houses and fairy furniture for inspiration, taking note of the materials being used.
Home assignment: Gather materials for your fairy house. Sketch your plan and decide what you would like to include in your fairy
            house

Day 2: Come to class ready to share your ideas and ask questions that will help to take your fairy house to the next level. We will discuss
architecture and use some of our class time to build/construct and bring our houses to life! We will also learn how to write a fun
advertisement/listing for our fairy house (this portion is optional, but a great exercise in creative thought and writing)! In this class
students will also be given many examples of furniture they can create for the interior of their fairy house!
Home assignment: Continue working on your fairy house. Complete it and don't forget to take pictures of it so that they can be
added to the class slideshow on the final day. Also: write a short listing for your fairy house describing its details,
important/special features and anything else exciting that you may want to share.

Day 3: Attend class ready to present your fairy house build! Each student will have time to tell all about their hard work and display their
final product, along with their listing! This is the BEST day and I can't wait to see what each fairy house architect designed!

* Don't forget to check out my other Fairy class: Fairy House Interior Style & Design. It's a great supplement to this class too!

See you soon!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello & welcome to Outschool! My name is Suzi and I'm excited to share a bit about myself.

I am a former elementary school teacher turned homeschooling mom. I have a background in Literacy education and find joy in teaching new things and helping students discover their interests through content and instruction. I think it's important to engage students through storytelling, example and hands on experiences.

As a teacher, I've taught everything from pre-school through high school grades and across all content areas. My favorite subjects to teach are history and math and I have a serious love of language and how to use it, whether it be through writing, speaking or problem solving.

My family and I live in Wisconsin. We have 3 children and 3 dogs (2 guinea pigs and a rabbit) and are originally from the East Coast...but are starting to realize we're destined to be midwesterners! I hope to see you in class soon!

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or suggestions you might have for classes. I love teaching with Outschool and can't wait to meet your student.

Thank you,
Miss Suzi
