US Grade 2 - 6

It's the perfect time to get outside and use the world around us to create beautiful and fanciful fairy houses to display. 
In this 1 day course you will learn about fairy houses, their history and why people make them. You will then brainstorm ideas for our very own fairy house and the materials you can use in nature in order to create it. Finally, you will construct your very own fairy house and even learn how to make furniture and accessories for your fairies to enjoy.

During this course your student will be using various subject and content areas when designing their fairy houses. Through teacher guided conversation, math, science and history we will cover many topics while also having fun. Think: architecture meets design, meets art, meets math! It's sure to be a great time for all.

Your student will be guided by the teacher to make discoveries and really think outside of the box. Students will also work to create their own houses both inside and outside of class time.

This self-guided class will cover: 
* The history of fairy houses and consider what we know and like about fairy houses. 
* A variety of fairy houses and fairy furniture will be shared for inspiration, taking note of the materials being used. 
* Next, your student will be encouraged to design the blueprint for their fairy house and what they'd like to include inside. 
* Your student will gather materials for their fairy house, and use their sketched plan as a guide to complete their own house

Additional topics covered throughout the lesson: 
* Architecture 
* Furniture design
* Extended ideas for how to use materials in nature
* How to use household materials that you already have
* Safety when constructing 
* Ideas for what you can do to expand your fairy garden

Lesson 1:

Fairy House

 Learning, designing and constructing your very own fairy house with materials found in nature and at home. This class will provide all of the tools and support you need to complete your design from start to finish and inspire you to continue creating outside of class.

Supply List

Students will need access to paper, pencil and the safe use of a glue gun. In addition, students will be gathering supplies from home and nature to construct their fairy houses. Students should have access to things near their home like sticks, leaves, acorns, flowers and misc other supplies as needed. We will be making a list of possible supplies in class that I will share with families for inspiration during the process.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello! 
I am a former classroom teacher, literacy coach/educator and homeschool parent. Currently I focus on one on one tutoring and classes that are created for homeschool families and year-long curriculum on Outschool.

I began teaching this specific class at the height of covid and have had over 600 students learn, build and discover all they can create with nature and the world around them. This class has evolved to include a bit of history and design and I've loved having the opportunity to share my love of the outdoors with students while watching them add their personal touches and ideas to what they are building!
