Class Experience

Do you love interior design and dream of becoming a designer? Are you interested in learning how to turn your designs into interior design drawings? Or maybe you're interested in learning how to improve your art skills. This class is for you! We'll start class by learning what an elevation is and why it's an important part of the interior design drawing package. We'll talk about how important it is to communicate our visions clearly with different types of drawings. Then we'll jump right into creating our captivating kitchen elevation!

Students will be led step by step by an interior designer through the structured process of creating an elevation. It's fun and easy! We'll start off with our rulers and paper as we learn how to sketch a frame for our elevation. Together, we'll move step by step through details large and small, learning how to layer in each piece one step at a time. Love to customize your drawings? Perfect! Students will learn multiple techniques for adding cabinetry details, tile patterns, and decor items to their designs and are encouraged to use their creativity to bring their own vision to life.

After our elevations are complete, students will learn how to use pencil, pen, marker, and colored pencils to add texture and color to their designs. How do we show a wood texture? How do we show tile patterns and textures? Students will not only build their mental design library, but learn how to bring what they see in their mind's eye to life on the page.

Students will have multiple opportunities to share their drawings in class, as well as ask questions and share about their drawing interests.

No prior knowledge of design or drawing necessary.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello parents! My name is Kristin and I own and run an Interior Design Build company that focuses on complete design build projects, with a focus on great architectural and interior design. I also teach project-led learning at our local micro school and lead a Homeschool Adventures Field Trip company. My goal is to help kids learn real-world skills in areas they're truly interested in. I teach in a lighthearted manner, and I value getting to know each student personally.

I have worked in the home design industry for 10 years in interior design, architectural design, home staging, real estate, and designing investment properties. I have worked with several students and interns, guiding them in building their design talents and in learning more about the industry. I love helping students discover their love of design and guiding them in the steps it takes to become a great designer!
