This is a sweet lesson with a big impact designed to help young writers develop their word choice and use of descriptive language. Skills and techniques learned here can be applied to all areas of creative writing, enabling students to write purposefully with more vivid detail, eliminating the dull, boring sentences of the past. This class is for students with writing experience that are ready to transform dull sentences into interesting, descriptive ones. Using a slide show I share on my screen, a shared story, activities, worksheets, discussion, and independent writing practice, this will be an engaging, hands-on, interactive course your student is sure to enjoy. Studying language and word choice that is used to convey ideas and feelings in creative ways, and learning how to use descriptive language to create powerful imagery, students will be inspired to transform sentences of their very own. Students will practice turning dull sentences into creative, descriptive sentences with modeling, support, and feedback. Finally, students will have the opportunity to put these new skills to use by doing written responses to themed prompts associated with the lesson. This fun course will be taught in a structured and meaningful way, giving students ample support, encouragement, and practice to help them master these new creative writing skills.
