What's included
4 live meetings
3 hrs 20 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this four day camp, students will have the opportunity to discuss and learn more about the The Descendants books and movies and then use their knowledge to develop and improve their reading comprehension and writing skills. Every class will start with a read aloud of a short text about the characters or an excerpt from one of the novels. After reading and discussing the passage, students will complete writing activities that check comprehension and facilitate analytical thinking about the information in the passage. The main focus of this camp will be writing strong sentences, which are the building block of writing. Over the course of the four days, students will: *Learn the characteristics of a complete sentence. *Identify and produce the four sentence types. *Combine simple sentences into compound sentences using conjunctions. *Write a single sentence summary. Students learn more when they are active participants in their learning. By centering the learning around a topic that students are passionate about, students will be more willing and excited to participate in the discussions and activities. Students who are shy about participating in discussions will not be forced to contribute to the discussion; however, they will still benefit from being able to learn the skills by applying them to a topic that holds their interest.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their writing at the sentence level as well as practice reading comprehension skills.
