Class Experience

We will start by looking at some examples of the famous artist Edgar Degas. Students will then be guided step-by-step to draw a ballerina with a pencil. We will then trace the drawing with a sharpie and erase any visible pencil lines. Next, there will be a demonstration on how to create skin colors using watercolor. There will be a painting demonstration focusing on brushstroke direction. Students are welcome to customize their work however they like by using different colors or adding other elements to the image. At the end of the class, anyone who would like to share their work will have an opportunity to do so.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is Jessica Campbell and I was born to be an art teacher!
I mainly teach lessons that are a combination of drawing and watercolor. I have a degree in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz, and have been teaching art since 2002.
Not only have I taught in both public and private classrooms, but I also have run a successful art camp every summer for the past 15 years. At this point in my career, I have taught over 10,000 students! I am excited to work with even more in this virtual platform, especially now that my summer camps have been cancelled.
My teaching philosophy is all about building confidence in my students. I have developed lessons that are designed to be simple, yet very successful. We work step by step to create amazing projects that families will want to display. When a child feels that their work is valued, it definitely encourages them to take even more risks and achieve greater things!
I live in Tampa, Florida with my husband, two kids and a dog named Bacon! I love dressing up in silly costumes and running half marathons (at the same time!) Hope to meet you soon!
