A sheet will be posted to our classroom page at the beginning of each week. This sheet is to be printed (or accessible to look at during class). There will be a new sheet each week and 2 sheets during the last week. These sheets will be sent to the enrolled students before class each week. Please have this handy during class time because we will be referring to it throughout class. After we complete each strategy, students will receive some optional resources that can be used after class is over. Practice at home using each strategy is optional but highly encouraged! During weeks 3 and 4, students will be asked to bring an item from their home to share with the class. More directions will be given at that time.

During our time together, there will be engaging activities, read aloud books to practice the strategy, and time for students to implement the strategy with guided practice. Students will receive handouts to print or have access to each week during class. Students who are enrolled will also receive extra resources to practice each week’s skills at home. Practice at home is optional, but highly recommended. During weeks 3 and 4, students will have the opportunity to bring an item from home to use in class. (More directions will be given on this during weeks 3 and 4). There will be lots of discussion during our time together to ensure students understand the class material.

We will spend time building on prior lessons and making connections so participation in all the lessons will be the most effective at helping your child improve his/her comprehension! Recordings can be shared if attendance isn't possible for all sessions.

This class is designed for students who are able to read but may not be super confident in reading comprehension. This class will help them learn strategies to independently apply while reading to help them dig deeper for meaning! During my own classroom experience, these strategies were used most effectively for readers in the later part of first grade, and all throughout second and third grade. These strategies give readers an extra boost of confidence and help them gain a deeper reading comprehension. Please let me know if you have any questions about whether your learner may be ready for this class!
