Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
In this ongoing class we will dive deep into the ocean and learn all about the creatures that lurk below. We will focus primarily on fish but will occasionally explore other creatures of the ocean. Students will be given a handout that allows them to write notes or draw pictures of the animals we look at each week. During class students will be able to ask questions and comment as we go through the slides. We will sometimes see short videos of the creatures to really understand some of their habits and the way they look in their natural habitats. We will also touch on ideas of how conservation and pollution positively and negatively effect our oceans and talk about ideas of what we can do to better our earth. No reading is required of the student.

My class setting is a relaxed, fun, open space for students to be able to discuss and express their thoughts about what we are learning. I encourage student interaction with not only myself but with their fellow classmates. Everyone is expected to be respectful and listen to one another but also feel like they have the ability to share their own thoughts and opinions. I believe learning should be fun and try to provide a space for that to happen.

Hi! I love to teach classes that are fun and promote discussion and creativity. In all of my classes I mix critical thinking with out of the box thinking so that the kids learn something brand new! I find the best way to do this is by using books, video games, trivia and other interactive components to keep them engaged and wanting to learn.

My passion for critical thought stems from my degree in Philosophy. The integration of pop culture in my classes is rooted in a lifetime of toy collecting, video game playing, and during my time as a staff writer for an online comic book review site. Over the past five years I have created community-based, pop-up craft classes for parents and children that integrate culture and thought, and I am excited about the opportunity to share these types of activities with my students!

Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband, son and three cats! I like online gaming and spending a lot of time crafting.
