In this one time class, we will look at how fractions and decimals compare to one another. We will spend time analyzing how to turn a decimal into a fraction using place value. We will use the tenths, hundredths, and thousandths place. Learners will use decimal grids to help their thinking. Next, we will take a look at how to turn a fraction into a decimal. Is the denominator a factor of 10, 100, or 1000? How can we change the denominator into something that fits into our place value? These are the questions the learner will answer by the end of class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! My name is Teacher Shannon and I am so excited to meet you! I have been working with students from all ages for over ten years and I am ready for you to join the party! Our classes together will focus on a range of things from fun with fractions to diving into life underwater. Don’t worry - our time together will be boring and uninteresting. Not! Your class will be full of excitement and high energy as we approach learning in an exciting way. I have a passion for connecting with students and helping them feel as if their teacher really “gets” them. My experiences have helped prepare me to meet the needs of students of every type. Previously, I was a fifth grade classroom teacher and I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching, a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Liberal studies, and a minor in elementary education. Outside of teaching, I am a PADI certified professional scuba diver and I hope to bring my love for all things aquatic into our classroom. I look forward to seeing you soon!
