In this life science course, students will learns the fundamentals of ecosystems through a combination of lecture, discussion, videos and projects. This course will be structured like a typical biology/life science course, with a warm-up/review, lecture/discussion, and activities. Students will be given guided notes, participate in powerpoint presentations/discussions, play interactive review games, take assessments and complete a cumulative project that will demonstrate their complete knowledge of the course content. Topics this course will cover include: Week 1: Ecosystem Vocabulary Weeks 2-3: Photosynthesis/respiration and the relationship between them and the photosynthesis process, and the chemical equation that represents it Week 4: Biotic/Abiotic factors in an ecosystem Week 5-6: Trophic levels, energy transfer, food webs, and energy pyramids Week 7: Ecosystem organization ( organism, species, group, population, community, ecosystem ) Week 8: Relationships between organisms (predator/prey relationship, symbiotic relationships) Weeks 9-10: Various biomes/ecosystems Students will be required to join a Google Classroom to keep events, activities and assignments organized. Students need a valid email address to join Google Classroom.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the fundamentals of how ecosystems work, the relationships of organisms within ecosystems and how those relationships impact their enviroments.
