US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
This class follows the Basic Language Skills curriculum from Neuhaus Education Learning Center which is Orton-Gillingham approved . Basic Language Skills is a systematic, sequential, intensive comprehensive literacy curriculum to be used with students identified with special needs in learning to read and spell.  It is particularly effective with dyslexic or reading disabled students.  We will begin the class with Basic Language Skills concept #1 and in this section we will continue to concept  .  We will work as quickly as we can but take as much time as needed for the students.  

The schedule each class 
AIR-   Rapid Recognition chart- develops instant letter recognition, facility in segmenting words into phonemes and rapid word recognition (5minutes)
Handwriting-focus on cursive to increase students' fluidity in writing lower case letters (5 minutes)
Reading Deck Cards- Students automate sound-symbol correspondences and knowledge of word parts (3 minutes)
Spelling Deck-enables students to automate knowledge of sounds and their most frequent orthographic representation (3 minutes)
New Concept- introduces reading concept (10 minutes)
Reading Practice- word lists and sentences provide focused practice of newly introduced and previously introduced reading concepts (5 minutes)
Spelling Practice- introduces new spelling concepts and provides focused practices of previously learned skills (10 minutes)
Extended Reading and Writing- extended practice for developing fluency, comprehension, grammar, and sentence writing skills (15 minutes)
Expressive Language-builds foundational skills of comprehension (5 minutes)
Read Aloud-time to check comprehension strategies(5 minutes)

Learning Goals

The students will have an understanding of how to code and read words. They will then be able to independently be able to use this learning when reading books and writing.
