Intermediate Level
In this two learners-to-teacher debate tutoring session, a team of two students will be coached in debate skills as requested by parent. This format is perfect for the shy learner or students preparing for a speech or debate competition. DEBATE KEY FOCUS: Technical elements of debate skills to include opening statements, 3-part body with main idea and supporting details, effective summary statement, elements of scoring, poise, voice projection, gestures, research and credible evidence. Learner will practice civil and respectful debate in presenting and defending motions. Learner will practice listening skills for effective rebuttals PUBLIC SPEAKING KEY FOCUS: Nearly 40% of debate is the actual presentation style. The participants must exhibit confidence and poise when speaking in front of a judge or audience. Participants will practice speaking to express thoughts and feelings effectively to include the skills of speaking rate, voice volume, eye contact, body gestures, and speaking from note cards.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to work together as a two or three-person team. Each lesson will be tailored to the team's needs in speaking and/or debate skills.

Parental Guidance
Debate topics will be timely with current events but we will avoid hot button topics such as politics, evolution, gender identity, etc.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
