𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭:

The class will start by giving the students a fun topic to practice impromptu speaking (If you had 3 wishes, Would you rather, etc). They will then have 5 minutes to curate a speech and present it to the class, using a provided template.

The more often they do this, the better they will get at being able to think on their feet, turn those thoughts into effective and compelling conversations and speeches, and erase the fear of public speaking!

The second half of the class will be spent practicing beginner debate skills. Learners will be given the topic a week in advance and are encouraged to think about it prior to class.

Examples of debate topics:

🎙 Should be ban plastic bottled water?
🎙 Are zoos ethical?
🎙 Is homework beneficial?

This class introduces learners to public speaking and debate and is an open debate style. Learners will all be given a chance to present their opening arguments.

Then we will go to the rebuttal round where they are encouraged to counter the opposition's arguments.

A debate can't be won just by speaking; it's just as important to listen. We will teach them HOW listen to the other side and think of ways to weaken their points.

📣 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬?

We create custom Debate Topic Guides for each week that are specifically designed to help learners understand what the debate is about, the pros, cons, and questions to consider. We also provide a debate vocabulary list and an outline to help them craft their case.

We also post an additional FREE video each week that focuses on specific speech and debate strategies that your learner can then implement in class!
