This fun and interactive club style class will be the perfect opportunity for learners to practice their public speaking skills in a competitive debate environment.
Class experience
Welcome to debate club! The only class where arguing is encouraged. Together with a group of your friends, we will learn all about formal debates. Students will be given a topic to research and develop before class. To begin class, we will review a new debate formality and then practice our debating skills. Students will be given time to work together in teams to develop their debating strategy and prepare for the day's debate. During the debate each student will be given an initial two...
Students will learn about and practice competing on a formal debate team.
Teacher Mel is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick's Faculty of Law. She has also taught debating for several years and has competed on debate teams and in moot court competitions.
Students should bring pen and paper to each class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
