Description
Class Experience
Learners will gain practice in argumentation and presentation, in the use of language and words to craft important ideas and the practice of reading and researching the important events of the world helping them to be informed world citizens who can discuss and debate with confidence and kindness.
I am a world citizen. I teach debate and I am a human rights lawyer who spent many years in United Nations Courtrooms arguing out global events. I think it is essential to have young people who can critically think, who can research and understand good sourcing of information and who can learn to articulate their ideas and positions while still remaining respectful and kind.
Each week learners will be required to prepare with research and argumentation preparation.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
While events around the world will be fair game, some of the most personal and private topics (such as the topics of abortion or religion) will be avoided. If a current event chosen is of a personal nature to a participant and they would prefer to not debate it, I am happy to change the topic if necessary.
