This course is designed as a clinic companion to my debate courses, but can also be taken by those who are just interested in the art of the question. Questioning people effectively requires using language and critical thinking skills to consider the information you want to gain and a plan for how to obtain it. Each class period will spend the first half of class learning the technique of the day and the second half will involve games or mock exercises in order to allow learners to practice...
This clinic hopes to teach learners not only effective techniques during formal debating, but also to teach learners how to use language and reasoning to obtain the information you truly want to gain in your life. By the end of this clinic, the learner will gain confidence in their interactions with others, whether on a debate stage, in a courtroom, as a journalist or as a member of the community.
I teach debate and am a practicing lawyer. I also care passionately that young people learn how to interact and engage in the world with respect, integrity and with critical thinking skills intact.
