Art is an amazing way to express yourself, work through emotions, or simply create lasting memories. In this ongoing class we will create an illustrated journal. Each class, every learner will draw something they were feeling, thinking or experiencing that week. If learners choose to take this as an ongoing class, they will eventually create a visual diary. I have done illustrated journaling for 13 years now and I love to look back at my old sketchbooks. I like to teach by example, so each...
Learners will learn to express themselves through art. Learners will learn how to communicate complicated messages visually. Learners will learn how to draw simple cartoons. Learners will also improve as artists if they take this class on a regular basis, because they will be drawing regularly.
I will ask learners to think about what they want to draw before every class. I will expect learners finish their drawings for homework if they did not complete them during class.
Sketchbook Pencil Erasers Sharpener Black felt tipped drawing pens (I use microns) Pencil crayons (optional) Markers (optional)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I do not like to mark art because it is so personal, but I will provide helpful feedback if learners send me their art and request it.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Art is very personal, and this class encourages learners to draw their emotions/feelings/experiences. I imagine that most learners will draw experiences (things that happen to them in the week) as this is what I will demonstrate in my own art. However, their art could reveal some intense feelings or frustrations they are having/experiencing.
