Writing letters can be a tedious chore. Students aren't always familiar with the purpose of writing or with the criteria needed to write an appropriate high-level letter. Enter Elvis, my dog, who gets along with everyone (even grumpy people who don't like dogs)! Because Elvis is such a loveable little guy, people often ask his advice for getting along with others. So he has started his own advice column but has been overwhelmed with the number of letters received each week. So he has asked for your help, writing answers to these letters. Each week, one or two teacher -created letters will be read aloud (a student wondering how to make friends in a new school, or how to do better in school), and the class will read and discuss it. As a class we will brainstorm possible solutions (such as smiling and saying hello for the aforementioned new student). Then after a number of solutions have been tabled, each student will write a response letter explaining some of the options. Letters will be written with proper letter writing etiquette.

Students will learn to brainstorm and engage is discussion to problem solve.
