Class Experience

Hi Learners!
If you have experienced Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) before, welcome back! If you are new you may be asking what D&D is all about. Basically, "You and your friends tell a story together, guiding your heroes through quests for treasure, battles with deadly foes, daring rescues, courtly intrigue, and much more." This is more than just a game, through exploration and teambuilding the players learn life long skills, including increased empathy skills, negotiation, problem-solving, teamwork and social maneuvering.

Players will be given an option for using pre-generated characters that I provide or creating their own using Dndbeyond.com. We will be using the Standard Array for their ability scores for character creation.

So, what exactly is this course about? In this adventure, learners will be experiencing one of the most beloved entry level campaigns in the world of Dungeons and Dragons, with a twist. The Lost Mines of Phandelver is extremely popular and learners will get to see why. "Based in and around the town of Phandalin, Lost Mines of Phandelver is a module for the fantasy tabletop RPG that sees players attempting to rescue two friends from a band of goblin kidnappers who are ambushing innocent civilians along the main road."
Using my experience as a DM (Dungeon Master) for this campaign as well as many others, I have expanded upon this campaign, providing a few new twists to the beloved Lost Mines of Phandelver campaign.

This class is a Ongoing, learners are highly encouraged to attend each session or miss story progression. This campaign is highly dependent on how the players decide to progress through the story. I will however provide a general overview of the timeline. The adventure is split into 5 parts, Goblin Arrows (3-4 weeks), Phandalin (3-5 weeks), Spider's Web (3-5 weeks), Wave Echo Cave (3-4 weeks), and the final confrontation (3-5 weeks), with extra space for further character exploration (2-3 weeks). The number of weeks are estimates as this depends on the learners and how far they progress each session.

In this course we will be using Outschool's Zoom meetings as well as Roll20.net for the interactive gaming maps. Roll20 does not work on mobile devices such as phones, tablets, so learners will need a laptop or desktop. We will also be using DndBeyond.com for character sheets.

We will be meeting once weekly on Friday evenings. Each week we will build upon the following week, continuing to explore the Sword Coast and the region around Phandelver. Players should do their best to attend each session or miss story progression.

I look forward to exploring the world of D&D with you all.
