Class Experience

The world of Aquarius is drowning under the Shadow Tide! It is up to an unlikely group of heroes to discover the secret of the Shadow Tide and uncover a means to stop its rise before the entire planet is engulfed!

This Dungeons & Dragons adventure will allow learners to use the D&D 5e rules to have an adventure on the high seas! Our heroes will need to fight against some incredible creatures on mysterious islands, fight (or escape from) vile pirates looking for loot, and try to find the reason the Shadow Tide is rising all over the alien world of Aquarius!

This class will be the first in a series of classes detailing the world of Aquarius and the threat of the Shadow Tide. Each class will continue the story, and learners can bring their character along into each class as they unravel the problem of the Shadow Tide. Learners do not have to take every class in the series to follow along with the story.

Our first meeting for this class will be character creation. We will create new 1st level characters who are just beginning their adventures on the high seas.

This adventure is very open, so the characters will need to use teamwork and their decision making skills to determine what actions they take. In this adventure choices and decisions have consequences, so the direction of the adventure will depend on the character's actions.

No previous experience is necessary! We will teach all the rules needed during class. If you've always been curious about Dungeons & Dragons, this is an opportunity to have a small taste of this imaginative world.

We will be using Roll20.net to visualize some of our encounters. Learners are not required to have a Roll20 account to participate, however. I will screen share so that everyone will be able to see the map and tokens representing the heroes and their opponents.

Role playing games are excellent vehicles for both curriculum based and soft skills. Learners will have the chance to use the following skills in class: planning, leadership skills, organizational skills, project management, decision making, situation analysis, storytelling, writing, reading, and math among others.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Ed!

I'm so happy to be teaching on Outschool!

I'm a professional puppeteer, a gamer, and a home school dad!

During my career as a puppeteer I've performed with the Muppets, the Jim Henson Company, and Sesame Street among others. I've been a puppeteer on feature films, tv shows, and videos throughout my 30+ year career. I have toured internationally with Walking with Dinosaurs-the Arena Spectacular for the past 11 years. Currently I own a company that tours throughout the Southeast.

As a home school dad I helped teach my son his entire school career.

I'm a huge fan of games, especially role-playing games! Playing a role playing game can improve skills like math, reading, comprehension, team work, and creative problem solving.

Students learn better when they are in an environment where they want to learn. Using puppetry and games, I've been able to educate students of all ages on a variety of topics. In fact, puppetry and games can be used to teach any subject under the sun!
