D&D Gaming: Learn How to Play Dungeons & Dragons With Me! (1 Week)
Class experience
This class is an introduction to Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, also known as "D&D 5e". Over four classes, we will play live D&D, learn the rules as written in the D&D Player's Handbook, create Player Characters, and play some more D&D! Everyone will leave understanding how to participate in the game, and hopefully look forward to playing D&D with their family and friends, as I love to do. Day 1: We play some D&D and then go over the rules. I share my Virtual Table Top with the class,...
Everyone will leave understanding how to participate in Dungeons and Dragons, including rules, Role Play, and expectations of etiquette.
I have successfully taught children as young as 6 to play D&D. My goal is to make the game engaging, safe, and fun for all involved. I have spent years working on my craft, and my goal is to promote D&D as a safe and fun way for families to connect and bond in a shared sense of adventure and creativity.
Learners will be expected to create a Player Character on DnDBeyond.com, and may need parental support.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
- DnDBeyond.com
- Fantasy Grounds Unity
- Kahoot
Dungeons & Dragons is a Fantasy Role Playing Game, and as such, may contain scenes of imagined suspense or combat. I will ensure that material discussed in the class remains age appropriate, and no learners will be permitted to Role Play acts of violence.
All materials that will be reviewed in this class are available online for free at DnDBeyond.com. Learners will be expected to create a Player Character on DnDBeyond.com, which can be done for free, but may require parental support. Learners may wish to purchase the D&D 5e Player's Handbook, which is an excellent resource, but is not required for this class. Dice will be rolled through DnDBeyond, so no physical dice or other materials are needed. We will play games on Kahoot.it, which learners can either access on a browser or through the Kahoot app, both of which are free.
Playing Dungeons & Dragons with my family has changed my life for the better. I want to teach children how to play this game with their friends and family. I am excited about finding ways to explore communication, math, creative writing, and...
