"Heaven, you fool? Did you ever hear of any pirates going thither? Give me hell, it's a merrier place.” -Thomas Sutton (Imprisoned, Sutton was chained in the hold next to a man who prayed constantly and he retorted the man was a fool for believing a pirate would go to Heaven.) In this history class we will talk about one of my favorite subjects: Pirates, Buccaneers, and Privateers. Each class will be presented in a campfire story telling format with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Students will be given chances to ask questions and be given chances to interact. Day 1: What is the difference between the different kinds of pirates? What made someone a pirate? How could you tell someone was really a pirate? What were pirate codes of conduct? How could you tell which pirate ship you were facing? Day 2: Black Beard: Wild Hair and a Reign of Terror Day 3: Ching Shih: The most successful pirate you've probably never heard of Day 4: Bartholomew Roberts: Black Bart, if you met him you probably wouldn't survive to tell the tale Day 5: Calico Jack and The Flying Dutchman: The truth behind the legends I will post daily activities for students to complete after class if they'd like as well as challenges. This class will be told with a combination of story telling, student interaction, and video clips.
