Did you know that there's a chance you could be hit in the head from a flying tortoise? Did you know that the world's most dangerous bird can weigh over 130 pounds? In this one time class, we will explore birds that are dangerous to the humans who may come in contact with them. We will create a naturalist journal where we will draw each animal and learners will have the opportunity to write down any amazing facts that they learn about each animal during the class. The class will include a slide show to help guide our learning as we explore 4-5 birds.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Greetings! My name is Carrie Mullins and I can't wait to meet your student in my classroom! My professional credentials include a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree with an emphasis in elementary literacy. I also have an endorsement in teaching English as a Second language (ESL). I taught in a public school setting for 14 years. Although, my degrees focused mainly on literacy, I found a love for teaching science and incorporating literacy skills into other subjects. I spent 9 years in a STEM lab at my most recent school. During this time, I managed our school garden/outdoor classroom, taught all grades in elementary (Kindergarten - 5th), held STEM nights for our families, and served as the teacher leader in the building for science. I currently teach online ESL classes to students in China. I also homeschool my children and we are currently in our eighth year of learning at home! We attend a co-op where I am part of our leadership team and teach various classes ranging from pre-school to high school. I believe that students learn best when they are engaged, interested in the topic, and active participants in the lesson. Many of my classes focus on some form of literacy (reading or writing). However, I love teaching students in all academic areas so along with literacy classes, I also offer classes in other core academic areas. Occasionally, I will offer a class that is simply fun and cover a variety of topics and hobbies! I look forward to seeing your student in my classroom!
