US Grade 2 - 5
This course will explore the history of dressage from its origins to its transition to modern day horse sport and all the details that make it the unique performance art that it is. This class will be taught live via Zoom and will contain informational slides. pictures and video clips to demonstrate and highlight key aspects of the sport. Topics covered will include: What is the Dressage Training Scale? What are the dressage levels? How is a dressage test scored? What does a dressage arena look like? What does a dressage rider wear? What is piaffe and how does it differ from passage? What is a musical freestyle? Notable riders and their mounts will also be highlighted. Following the presentation will be a brief discussion about learners' impressions of the sport followed by a question/answer session. Optional supplementary materials will be provided at the end of class.
Learning Goals
By the end of this class, students will be able to define the sport of dressage and recount its history from inception to modern day. They will get to know Xenophon and why he's so important to the sport of dressage. Riders will learn why a dressage arena is believed to be laid out the way that is, what to wear at a riding competition and who the top riders in the world are.

I served as a Board Member of the Long Island Dressage Association from 2016-2020. I own my own small farm where I care for and train my own three horses in the sport of dressage.
