An 8 week course- learning storytelling through dance
Class experience
Class structure will largely be like a standard dance class. We will be starting from scratch, so no dance experience is necessary, though it will be helpful if you have some. Each day we will touch on technique, but the focus of this class is story telling through dance and learning choreography. We’ll learn a different dance every week, inspired by a different show each week. We’ll do a quick summary of the show we are working from, who choreographed the original, why it’s relevant today,...
Students will learn strong fundamentals in jazz and ballet, the core to musical theatre dance. They will learn new choreography and how to do it quickly, as well as story telling through dance. They will also learn musical theatre history, fundamental players in the creation and revolutions of musical theatre, and why musical theatre is relevant today.
I am teaching this class because dance and musical theatre are my ultimate passions. Bringing the opportunity for others share in the joy I feel while dancing, is the greatest gift I could ever receive. I have been dancing for 22 years and dancing professionally for 8. I’ve worked for Disney, as well as many regional theaters all over the country as a musical theatre performer. I know first hand the importance of technique and story telling in this industry, and I also know the freedom and joy dance in general can bring to all.
