Class Experience

***I'm working on adding more section times, but trying to work around and be respectful of everyone's holiday plans. Save the class and check back as I add more times.****

A beautiful sight...We're happy tonight....dancing in a winter wonderland!

Get ready to dance at our Winter Wonderland performance full of snowflakes, snowmen, and winter magic! Throughout our four weeks, the Snow Fairy dancers will work on dance fundamentals to create our special performance presented during our last class.

Classes will begin with a fun warm up, done through the telling of a story, to increase mobility and flexibility. We will stretch to make sure our bodies are ready to move! We will work on strength building and incorporating new foundational techniques in ballet and lyrical dance. Afterwards, we will work on exercises where we will explore our space and the floor, create personalized movements, and work on interacting with classmates. We will work on incorporating rhythm, new techniques, confidence in our own bodies, and storytelling.
Classes include approximately 10 minutes of stretching and strength training, 10 minutes of ballet, 10 minutes of lyrical, and 10 minutes of rehearsal. A video will be provided for students to practice the dance between weeks 3 & 4.

During weeks 2 & 3, Snow Fairy learners will be given ideas to build and design their own sets for their performance "stage" (Ex. drawing on a poster or using cotton for snow).

Snow Fairies may dress up in snow-related outfits (snow fairy outfits, ice princess outfits, snowmen/snow-women, snow angels).

NOTE 1: There will be NO discussion or mention of religion or holidays through music or dances in this class. We appreciate all backgrounds and want to include everyone regardless of what they do or do not celebrate.

NOTE 2: Minimum of 3 learners must be enrolled to encourage socialization

NOTE 3: Since the last week of December falls during a holiday week, it is understandable the schedules of families may vary. Your child's class time can transferred for the final week to a different class section to participate in the group performance. If you already know you can not make the last week for the performance due to schedule conflicts, the class can be pro-rated if the teacher is notified BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS only. I will also honor this for those who sign up for the Friday section who can not make the class the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Learning Goals

Students will building their skills in balance, strength, dexterity, and muscle training. We will begin each class with a warm up that helps build technique, attain better balance, and guides students to enhanced flexibility. We will perform exercises by the ballet barre (students are encouraged to use a chair) including plies, tendus, aerobesques, grand battments, turns, leaps, jumps, kicks, chasés,

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Students are more than welcome to dress up for class, as long as clothing is loosely fitted and does not have anything a child could trip over. Please provide a chair or something sturdy at an appropriate length for the height of your child for balancing. Please make sure your child takes the class in an open area where they will not accidentally kick something or put themselves in danger. Ideally, the space would not be slippery, but if it is a slippery surface, it is recommended to use non-stick socks or shoes. Parents and guardians should remain nearby to assist and prevent accidents. Please make sure they wear loosely fitted clothing. Having a water bottle nearby is ideal. If class is taken during warmer months, it is ideal to have an air conditioner or fan running to prevent overheating.

Hello current friends and future friends!

Find me on Instagram @Dancewithmesarah !!

Welcome to Ms. Sarah's virtual classes! I am super excited to share my passions including dance, world travel, music, writing, theater, and more with your children! My typical classes are high energy and intended to build skills, increase confidence, and have fun.

I graduated with honors with a double major in Psychology and Communications with a minor in Music from The City University of New York--Hunter College. I studied in Argentina at La Universidad de Mar del Plata and I hold a TESOL Certificate from Arizona State University.

My experience includes both in-school and online teaching, particularly as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher over the last four years and as a dance teacher for about ten years. As an ESL teacher, have worked with thousands of foreign learners, guiding them to high achievement with their English skills. I've created and utilized many tools and techniques to increase student output and improve their written, spoken, and reading skills. I also work as a mentor for new online ESL teachers. I was also who helped build the English skills of students at a local school in Livingstone, Zambia in Africa. I have taught and can speak both Spanish and Hebrew as well.

I am a trained dancer with experience holding classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary, theater, and hip hop. I studied and trained my whole life as a dancer. I danced with companies and in shows in New York City. I have also taught dance at schools in New York City, abroad in other countries. I hold both personal and virtual dance and movement classes with the company I created in my area. I ran the dance department at a day rehabilitation facility for special needs adults and at a school for the blind. What is my philosophy behind teaching dance? Dance is an art form. It is a creation of movement used to tell a story. My classes are constructed with the aim of building the student's confidence and providing a safe space for their own exploration. Classes are meant to be challenging, but very fun!

Fun Fact: Upon graduating from college, my big goal was to hit "30 before 30!" I have traveled the world, meeting so many different people along the way, as I made it my mission to see 30 countries. I am looking forward to meeting all of my future friends who live around the USA and around the world.

I am so excited to see you soon in my classroom!
