Class Experience

Our goal for this class is to explore expressing our emotions through movement. This will give students the tools to "dance-it-out" when they are feeling stressed or worried or happy. We want to keep the space safe and make students feel that there are no wrong answers, because their feelings are valid and the way they express them is valid.
As a teacher and a nanny, I often use the dance-it-out method to allow kids the time to physically express their feelings, so we can sit and talk about their problem and solve it together in an affective manner. I offer a safe space with no wrong answers, as long as you are not hurting yourself or others, your choices are valid!
None :) But maybe incorporate a five minute dance break in their daily lives to express how their day is going!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
There is no mature content, but I do want to encourage parents to validate their student's choices. There is no "right" way to dance and move to express ourselves. They may feel like stomping when they are angry, or jumping when they are happy. This may feel "too loud" or "too disruptive" for the house, try to allow these motions for a select period of time. These emotions should be allowed to be felt to their fullest. Encourage them to set aside a time to be noisy with you, maybe not while their younger sibling is napping or while mom is on a conference call. Also, don't be afraid to join in, seeing you moving and expressing emotions will inspire them to do the same.
