Daily Skills Practice With Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary, and Grammar: Ages 7-9
Class experience
US Grade 2 - 3
🌟 Your child will spend 20 minutes every day Monday-Friday practicing reading, spelling, and grammar skills and adding a new vocabulary word to their written and spoken vocabulary. 📣 I offer a free 15-minute Zoom consultation for all newly enrolled students so I can learn how to best serve them with my classes. You may request a time by sending me a message. This is a great time for parents to ask questions about which class level to enroll in, and to inform me of any specific needs I can...
1. Students will add one vocabulary word to their spoken and written vocabulary each day. 2. Students will practice, and within 2-3 weeks of attending daily classes, become masters at decoding new words. 3. Students will practice proofreading text daily to become proficient in editing their creative work. 4. Students will gain confidence in their reading and grammar skills.
I am a certified elementary teacher and certified reading therapist. I am offering this class to give students an in-depth study of how our English words are structured, and how to break them down into their sounds in order to make decoding easier. I teach each lesson using the Phono-graphix method which I have been formally trained in by the program authors. I have been using this strategy with my private students for over 20 years and my students have had amazing success with it.
Homework Offered
Students are encouraged to complete the optional homework assignment each day for vocabulary and grammar and usage practice. The vocabulary assignment is to write a creative sentence using the word of the day while applying grammar and usage rules learned in class.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will receive informal feedback from the teacher during class. The teacher will give feedback on students' homework posted to the classroom.Grades Offered
The method of instruction used in this class is Phono-Graphix which is based on the science of reading and is Dyslexia-friendly.
The only supplies needed are paper and a pencil or a whiteboard and marker for students who are unable to access the annotate feature in Zoom. I encourage students to keep a journal or collection of their daily words so they can review them at a later time and challenge themselves to use their new vocabulary words more often.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
We will be using teacher-created materials for this class.
