Class Experience
**This is a FLEX class with no live meetings.** In this class for beginning Spanish students, we will learn vocabulary through watching the online childrens show Salsa and doing follow up extension activities. All episodes for this class are based around the story of Little Red Riding Hood. I subscribe to the belief that students learn language more quickly and effectively the more often they engage with it. For this reason, I provide daily activities and videos for the students. Class Schedule: Week 1 - Episode 107: Little Red Riding Hood Week 2 - Episode 108: Disguises Week 3 - Episode 109: Manners Week 4 - Episode 110: Gut Busters Week 5 - Episode 111: Little Blue Riding Hood Week 6 - Episode 112: The Wolf's Share Class Format: Monday - Students are asked to watch the designated Salsa episode for the week and then draw and share in the classroom a picture about the episode. All episodes are about 15 minutes long and can be found free and online at (https://www.gpb.org/salsa/term/episode). While the English transcripts are readily available under each episode, I ask that parents please do not share them with the students. Learning through immersion is a big reason I am using these particular videos. Tuesday - I will review that week's focus vocabulary and then walk the students through drawing a nine-grid bingo card. Students will be able to interact with each other throughout the rest of the week through the bingo game. Each day I'll post 2-3 new words and once someone gets a bingo, learners will share a short recording showing themselves saying their winning words. In addition to the learner interaction this provides, it will also allow me to assess pronunciation. Wednesday-Friday - I will post a short (2-5m) video daily with activities to continue learning the vocabulary. I will guide students through an activity as if it were a live class and allow pauses for them to answer to themselves or to a parent. Each day's video will be different than the one posted the previous day. In addition to the daily videos, I also ask that students watch the Salsa episode of the week at least one extra time. Weekends are a great time to watch! Please note: The Salsa videos are entirely in Spanish, but even children with absolutely no previous Spanish knowledge will understand generally what is happening thanks to the visual clues and slower pace. I will use Spanish in all my videos, but will also translate to English afterwards for clarity.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a Charlotte Mason home educator with a degree in English and Spanish Literature. I am passionate about science and the humanities, and am excited to share my passion for these subjects with your children!
I believe that students learn best when they do the work of learning. This means that I will do my best to put them in contact with living ideas and facilitate their journey towards a more comprehensive understanding of the subject. I want your students to participate in their own education. Rather than rote memorization, we will utilize first-hand experience and the process of narration (re-telling what they have learned from the lesson). I hope your children will leave my courses inspired and with a greater desire to continue learning!
