Class Experience

This class will discuss several of the world's cutest animals, and discuss what makes something "cute". We will learn about what makes something aesthetically pleasing or cute, our emotional response to things that are cute, and how animals may purposefully use this emotional response for their survival. We will also discuss how different styles, such as Kawaii, use the science of cuteness. We will actively discuss and use inquiry-based learning to develop our understanding. Visually stunning and interesting slides will help guide our learning. Students do not need any special experience or knowledge, just a love of science and cute animals. This is a fun class that explores the cutest area of science and nature!

Learning Goals

Students will learn about cute animals, discover what traits make something cute, how scientists define "cuteness", and how cuteness can help a species survive.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Michelle! I am a licensed educator with a Bachelor's in English, and a Master's in Teaching with special certifications in Special Education and teaching English Language Learners. This background allows me to differentiate and scaffold my instruction in order to help all learners succeed. I love learning, and am currently working on pre-requisite classes for medical school. I love science, and as a mom of 3 boys and 2 girls, I love making lessons that my kids would find interesting. I am a huge believer in inquiry based learning, and acquiring knowledge from questioning and discovery. I love creating lessons that are interactive, meaningful, positive and fun!

When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my family enjoying the outdoors, doing DIY projects around our house, crafting of all sorts, and playing the piano.

I look forward to seeing you in class!
