Learning cursive is great for your brain! Research has shown that writing in cursive stimulates different parts of the brain than writing in print or typing. Writing in cursive also increases fine motor skills, as well as helps readers learn how to pronounce letter blends. Using the D'Nealian Handwriting method (where the letters are slanted slightly to the right as opposed to straight up and down), students will learn the fundamentals of writing in cursive. This class is designed for learners who are learning cursive for the first time, or those would just like some extra practice. The goal is for learners to greatly improve their personal legibility - practice does not make perfect, but rather progress. Class Structure: - Introductions - Growth Mindset Discussion - Position for Writing - Undercurve Handwriting Stroke - Overcurve Handwriting Stroke - Lowercase c, a, t - Connecting the letters - Cat Drawing I will provide a handwriting printout page for this lesson to be printed prior to class. The page has larger lines for writing, and is the one I will be demonstrating with in class. Your learner can also follow along with lined paper (preferably the larger lines, with the dotted lines for writing). I look forward to helping you grow and improve!
Learning Goals
Students will become familiar with the most used strokes in cursive (undercurve and overcurve), write and connect the letters c-a-t, recite growth mindset sentences, and draw a cat.
