Many students today lack the ability to take notes quickly or even sign their name because they have never studied cursive or were only offered a short tutorial on this type of writing during their grammar school years. Reliance on computer technology for writing purposes has further eroded their writing skills in both print and script. Yet neat penmanship is essential for good note-taking and communicating our thoughts clearly to others in written form. Writing neatly by hand, furthermore, involves the creation of beauty and develops a student’s patience and discipline. In thisonline course, we improve our cursive handwriting through reading and writing about people and events from American history as well as drawing them. Why drawing? Drawing involves some of the same muscle groups as handwriting. It’s also lots of fun!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I completed my BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees in Spanish, and I have been teaching Spanish and general humanities courses since 2004. I believe in "restful" learning, which means not rushing through material, but taking the time needed to make sure students master the fundamentals of each concept before moving on. In addition to teaching humans, I am currently teaching my cat to understand Spanish!
