Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Cursive is quickly becoming a lost art. Student are not learning cursive handwriting as much in schools, but in order for students to be able to read cursive writing in real life situations, they will need to learn to write it first. Students must know how to print the whole alphabet before they can learn cursive handwriting. Students will learn and practice each letter of the Alphabet in cursive handwriting. Each week we will cover 6-8 letters of the alphabet, along with a couple of words using these letters practiced. Student will be given step by step instructions on how to write each letter and words, with on screen demonstration. Students will be expected to practice at home each week. If students are unable to practice each week, parents will not see improvement in their handwriting. Practice worksheets will be provided to students in the classroom to print out for after class practice. Silly fun sentences and questions will be used to make practicing cursive fun. Students can take pictures or scan their practice worksheet to turn in each week and post in the classroom. Each week builds on the next so students will need to attend each week of classes.
Students will need paper and pencil at the beginning of every class, some student use lose paper, some use a notebook. Both are acceptable options. The practice sheets are optional and for after class. You can also just use these on a device in the pdf format and have students copy on their own paper if you don't have access to a printer.

I am homeschooling mom of 20+ years and I have a Masters Degree in Teaching and Learning with Technology. I also have taught all three of my kids cursive. Now the schools are not teaching this lost skill and I believe it is something students need to know.
