Did you know that learning cursive is actually good for your child's brain? That's right! Research has been conducted to study brain activity in children. Studies show that cursive writing stimulates different parts of the brain than in writing print or typing. Writing in cursive also increases fine motor skills, as well as helps readers learn how to pronounce letter blends. In this ongoing class, aimed at children ages 11 - 15, we will focus on the four keys to legibility: shape, size, slant, and spacing to help learners understand the key aspects of good handwriting. We will also work on proper pencil grip and paper position to allow writing to flow more naturally and easily for your learner. Proper posture is important to having good handwriting! With many opportunities for repetition and practicing these basic skills, your child will begin to notice progress and how their writing has transitioned into a more smooth, and rhythmic flow. With an ongoing class, your child can join in at any time! My goal is to help your child develop good handwriting skills and learn lowercase and capital letters so come for one lesson or the entire course, whichever works best for you! BONUS: Stay for the entire course and receive $10 back! Each week, learners will be taught how to write letters based on the week's cursive stroke. (see schedule below). Using this weekly stroke focus, we will work on not only letters but also writing short words and phrases. During the lessons, your child will have time to interact with some writing games that will utilize their cursive writing skills and tie in grammar skills too! Additionally, your child, should they choose to, can share their writing and interact with others. Recognizing others hard work and efforts is a positive way to let your child and others know their practice is paying off! Finally, to allow for group work and individual 1:1 teacher-student time, breakout rooms may be used during the lesson. Please see schedule below: *Note* If you'd be interested in having the class 2x a week instead of this weekly schedule, please send me a message and I can work with you about creating a 2x a week class. Week 1 lowercase letters (i, t, u, w, e, l, b) Week 2 - lowercase letters (h, f, k, r, s, j, p) Week 3 - lowercase letters (a, d, g, o, c, q) Week 4- lowercase letters (n, m, y, x, v, z) Week 5 - capital letters (A, D, O, C, and E) Week 6 - capital letters (N, M, H, K, U, Y, Z, V, W, X) Week 7 - capital letters (I, J , Q, T, F, G, S, L, P, R, B) Week 8 - Potentially one last meeting for a final review, cumulative writing practice class if there is enough interest after working through all the cursive letters. Materials: Lined paper *Note: I will send out lined paper should you wish to print it. Otherwise, feel free to use whatever lined paper you have available. If you'd like to use a notebook to keep track of your child's work, that will work too! Sharpened pencil (Please make sure pencil is sharpened before class) Please note: This class is designed for learners who are learning cursive for the first time, or those would just like some extra practice. If you do not see a section conducive to your schedule, please let me know and I'll work to try to accommodate your needs as best I can.

My Outschool classes will be a great way to connect with reading and ignite the joys of reading and components of literacy. I will focus on teaching topics related to reading such as reading comprehension, phonemic awareness, and even grammar skills and poetry! You may also find some classes related to content areas as well that are connected to reading! Classes will be taught in a fun and positive way to make the most of learning!
When I am not reading, I love spending time with friends and family and enjoying time outside. I love picture books and think you are NEVER too old for a picture book!
