Sci-Fi and Advancement of Medicine
Students will write a persuasive paper for/against the use of a selected medical advancement and compare its description in 2-3 sci-fi movies.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Everyday Heroes: Teens Making A Difference
Students will discuss/analyze/summarize a story/article of a teenager who has impacted the local, national or global world.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Social Justice And The Justice League
Students will write a description of how a selected superhero has impacted social justice topics such as equality or human rights.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Operation Environmental Rescue
Students will devise a public service announcement, pamphlet or flyer that focuses on an environmental threat or action.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Utopia, Dystopia, Society And Reality
Students will compare/contrast the various types and analyze current societies to find similarities and differences. Create a model dystopian/utopian society based on features of the chosen society.

Students will research of a pressing event, local, national or global and presentation in their choice of media.
I am excited to take my own love of movies and incorporate it into a meaningful lesson on how to synthesize information from various sources and relate it to real life. I’ve been teaching since 2008, and am certified in English 7-12 in Pa. I am teaching this class as a way to dovetail current events with relevant movies that speak to the issues at hand.
I have recently completed my certificate in media studies involving current event analysis and how to determine currency, relevance, accuracy, authority and purpose of current events in news articles and writings.  
Teacher will provide lessons in the form of PowerPoint presentation weekly.
