Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
~ Teacher Tom was featured as a top educator on Outschool's EPIC Spotlight for Passion-Driven Learning in 2021! ~

NOTE: This class is great for advanced learners who love Space Science and Rockets, who are comfortable raising their hand, muting and unmuting, can sit still and focus and are able to stay on topic and follow along with slides, videos, and discussion for 45 minutes. There is no homework but learners will do better if they are allowed to watch scheduled rocket launches throughout the week. It is suggested that you show your learners some space technology & rocket launch videos in advance of class to see if this topic is something they are interested in and can get excited about! Learners who have an affinity for Rockets and Space Technology will be right at home in this class.

This class is the same as my popular Space Technology and Rocket Launches classes for older learners, however, there are a few key differences due to the learners being much younger.
1. We will only focus on the most important Space Technology and Rocket events that week.
2. The class size will be 4-5 learners per class instead of 8-9 learners like the older classes.

During this class, we will be talking about the latest happenings in space technology and rocket launches!

The class will be a combination of slides, videos, and discussions, and learners can jump in and share their thoughts or ask questions at any point. They can also bring up topics they've seen or read about.

The discussions will be a combination of current events as they are happening, along with space and technology questions that your learner brings to the table. There is not a pre-determined schedule, as there are new advances in space technology and new rocket launches all the time.

For example:
- SpaceX Starship Rocket
- International Space Station
- SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket
- United Launch Alliance (Rocket Company)
- Blue Origin (Rocket Company)
-Virgin Galactic (Rocket Company)
-Firefly (Rocket Company)
- Starlink Satellites (New space-based internet technology)
- Discussion of the progression of rocket types over the years. (NASA Space Shuttle program, etc.)
- SpaceX Starship History
- Inspiration 4 Mission
- Dear Moon Mission
- Kerbal Space Program

I teach several Space, Science, History, Trades & Technology classes including; Women in Space (Historic & Modern) Analog Astronauts & Missions, Current Events in Space Technology & Rocket Launches, Billionaires in Space, Rockets in Space, Kerbal Space Program, Ham Radio, The Science of Fireworks, Historic Antarctic Expeditions, Lego Challenges, Tools, Finish Carpentry & more!

Learning Goals

Students will learn:
-how quickly space technology is advancing
-how soon they might be able to move to Mars
-how there can be setbacks in this kind of progress when testing has explosive results
-how perseverance and progress go hand in hand

They will also learn discussion skills and might pick up some rocket science

Other Details

Parental Guidance
There will be footage shared of (unmanned) rockets crash-landing.
