Description
Class Experience
Students will learn about government and civic responsibility, and media analysis.
My BA is in History, Political Science and Secondary Education, and my MA is in American Studies. I have several years of experience teaching high school and college students, and have spent the last 4 years teaching United States history, American Government, World History, Human Geography, and Current Events classes in person to homeschooled high school students who are part of a homeschool support group that I founded. I feel strongly that students learn and connect to subject matter material when they can connect it to their daily lives. I strive to help students understand the "so what" about all types of social science subjects.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
In this class, we will discuss a wide variety of current news events. The very nature of current news topics may, on occasion, lead us to discuss difficult topics like war, climate change, migration and refugees, religious or ethnic persecution, LGBTQ+ issues, etc.
