In this one-time class, students will learn all about their unique generation, get a brief overview of key current events shaping their future, and (most importantly) learn positive ways to get involved and make positive change!

Class experience

US Grade 6 - 8
Students will gain a general understanding of the main economic and political issues and events that their generation will face as adults and voters, on a middle school appropriate level. The purpose is not to discuss the issues in detail, or form any kind of opinion. Rather, this class aims to demonstrate a broad picture of the current events facing Gen Z as they get older, and the importance of being engaged, learning as much as they can, keeping an open mind, cooperating, and being creative problem solvers.
I'm a homeschool mom with a 20-year career working with the legal and government systems in both the military and civilian sector. I hold both bachelors and masters degrees in Legal Studies, served as a Corrections Specialist with the Military Police, and worked as a paralegal for 3+ years, all before working as a freelance ghostwriter writing published books for attorney's, victims rights advocates, former FBI agents, and serial entrepreneurs. For the last 5+ years, I have been coaching and teaching middle and high school students in the local homeschool community. You can learn more about me on my profile page, or please feel free to message me with questions!
A unique code to enter the Nearpod activities page will be provided in the classroom page prior to the start of class. The site and/or app are free to use and instructions will be provided.

No other supplies or materials are needed.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Current events, including Covid19 and the wars in the Middle East, will be mentioned during the presentation. Students will not discuss the issues as a class and we will not go into depth. The events and issues will simply be presented with basic facts and as examples of current events and issues.
A theory by geopolitical analyst George Friedman, detailed in his book 'The Storm Before the Calm: America's Discord, The Coming Crisis of the 2020's, and the Triumph Beyond' will be briefly mentioned and simplified for the class. It will be presented as an economic 'theory'.
