This club-like class will offer the opportunity for students to learn more about what is happening in the world, and to discuss ideas and events with each other, and with a certified social studies teacher. I present slides with an overview of events that have happened throughout the week, from all around the world. I choose stories that I think would be appropriate and interesting for this age group. I love when learners have extra information to add or bring up other current events. ...
-Students will improve their understanding about current events happening around the world. -Students will develop opinions and discuss thoughts.
I am a certified social studies teacher with over a decade of experience working with learners. I focus on individualizing lessons to meet the needs of learners, including those who struggling and/or students who need more challenge. I have a BA in Political Science, a MA in Secondary Education, and an Ed Spec degree in Educational Technology. I use technologies in effective and creative ways to enhance the learning process and increase motivation of learners. If a parent has any questions about my education and/or qualifications, I encourage them to message me.
I will encourage students to watch CNN10 on a regular basis, but it's only a suggestion.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Violent or graphic images or language will not be included or allowed. As mentioned, I have extensive expertise in teaching social studies content, and advanced degrees. I want to avoid things that would make any student uncomfortable. If a sensitive topic, marginalized group or other historical conversation of sensitive nature occurs, I will ensure the focus is on the current events we are discussing, relying on the facts and not debating opinions.
