Students will develop critical thinking skills by presenting and discussing current events.
I have been a humanities teacher for seven years and I love encouraging students to discuss current events. I have experience guiding students through these discussions so that they develop critical thinking skills and a way to connect with our world.
Current events can vary from political, environmental issue, human rights violations and economic issues. Some of these issues will be controversial and may include discussion of politics, wars, discrimination and prejudice, sexism, racism, homophobia, xenophobia etc. So students and families should be aware and prepared for mature content and mature issues. If included in the current event of that week, the issue will be discussed from a factual standpoint by the teacher and students will be encouraged to respect others.
We will be accessing news websites for current events.
