Students will choose any current news story, write a short summary of the story and share what they have written in class.
US Grade 6 - 7
Each week students will choose a news article and write a one to two page summary on the article prior to class. Students should come to class with the article as well as with their summary so they will be prepared for any questions presented to them after they read their summary. This course will sharpen students critical thinking skills and will help them become more comfortable with speaking in a group setting. The goal of this course is to encourage an interest in current events, writing and group discussions on current matters.
Homework OfferedRequired homework will likely take a student 1 -2 hours each week to complete. They will need to find and read a news article they would like to write about and write a short summary (one full page is perfect) prior to class.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments OfferedParents are encouraged to reach out any time if they would like a report on their learner. This class is really to grow an interest and, therefore, will not be formally graded, but I am happy to provide a written report on progress of a student if requested.
Parents are encouraged to review the article chosen by their learner to be sure they are comfortable with the material.
