Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Learners will be able to:
-think critically about how birds eat
-evaluate the different types of beaks
When providing learning experiences for my own children and other learners, I believe in providing them with the information that they will need to facilitate their own discoveries and learning. It is this belief that shapes the structure of this class. Children, once given a base, are able to grow and extend their learning of a topic through interest and exploration.

Mrs. Bombard is a certified teacher, with a reading endorsement, in the state of Florida (previously certified in New York and Georgia). After ten years of teaching elementary grades in traditional settings, she left the classroom to homeschool her children which she continues to do. Mrs. Bombard is an advocate for learners to get up out of their seats, move, and engage with their learning in fun and meaningful ways.
No homework will be assigned or expected within this class.
A printable resource is provided by the teacher and should be printed prior to class beginning.

Additional materials that learners will need for class are:
- 1/4 cup of dried beans (any variety) or large beads will work if dried beans are unavailable
- 2 Dixie cups (3 oz)
- 1/4 cup of elbow macaroni (or straws cut into 1/2" pieces if macaroni is unavailable)
- Masking tape
- 2 paper cups (8 oz)
- 1 not bendable plastic straw

Learners should use a small towel if their work surface is smooth or slippery.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners are assessed on their understanding of the concepts via interactive discussion and authentic assessment. Additional explanations will be available for those learners who need more support to grasp concepts.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
