Description
Class Experience
This is the third in a series of year-long History classes, specifically covering Early Modern History. This class uses the Curiosity Chronicles curriculum to teach Early Modern History for 3rd to 6th graders. Curiosity Chronicles teaches history via conversation between two main characters - Mona and Ted - allowing for the study of history to feel more fun than academic! The student textbook and activity guide will be provided for at home use. I teach in a Socratic style, preferring to ask...
Students will gain an understanding of Early Modern History. They will learn how civilizations interacted, and create a timeline to understand how many cultures developed across time.
I have a BS degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Social Studies.
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Any potentially emotionally charged expressions around issues in history and/or events occurring to marginalized communities will be handled with sensitivity. Children will be invited to look at issues from all sides, and together we will determine what impacts different decisions had on the communities involved - with the actual impact on the marginalized community firmly at the fore.
This class will use the Curiosity Chronicles secular history curriculum for the globally minded child, public domain photographs, primary source documents, and insights from texts such as "America: The Story of Us," "A Brief History of Japanese Civilization" and more.
