Class Experience

Growth mindset is a phrase heard often especially in school, but what does it actually mean? In this four week course, your child will learn the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset through journaling, individual and group activities and teacher prompted discussion.

Week 1: We will define the terms growth mindset and fixed mindset. Your child and their peers will discuss the difference between them and share which one they feel they have and why. They will begin to explore ways to improve their mindset and discuss how improving their mindset could improve their happiness. Journal prompts will be given.

Week 2: A quick summary of week one will occur to remind students of what we covered and to allow new students to get acquainted. Your child will be given an opportunity to share about their experiences with using their growth mindset since last class. New journal prompts will be given and group or individual activity will occur.

Week 3: Group activities and journal writing will continue as your child explores new ways to improve their mindset. Group discussions will take place on how to handle difficult situations with a positive outlook. Journal prompt will be given.

Week 4: A recap of what was learned will take place. Your child and their peers will be given an opportunity to discuss how being mindful of their mindset has improved their life over the length of this course. Final journal prompts will be given and if time allows, a final group activity will be completed.

*There will be worksheets and short video clips shared during the course to aide in understanding the material. All children will be encouraged to participate in group discussions and activities however, they will be allowed to listen quietly and complete their activities individually. This course is designed to help your child develop and/or improve their mindset.

Parental Guidance
Having a growth mindset vs a fixed mindset simply means to think optimistically and allow yourself to learn and grow from your mistakes. Many children get frustrated when trying something new and then give up rather than continuing to try or to try in a different way. This is called a fixed mindset. These terms are now often talked about in classrooms and in yoga studios. Having a growth mindset leads to a healthier, thus longer and happier life.
