Class Experience
Has your child watched dozens of Rubik's Cube videos on Youtube attempting the confusing algorithms with minimal success? Or maybe your child has never even heard of the cube, but you remember it from your childhood and think they're up for the challenge? This course is the perfect solution! My easy to understand, storytelling model of teaching provides a detailed, step-by-step breakdown of how to solve the Rubik's Cube. The flexible schedule allows students to watch, rewatch and review all videos and resources on their own until they have mastered each step and are ready to move on to the next. I will host optional office hours for students to walk through any questions or concerns if they get stuck. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to interact with each other through the discussion board posting pictures and videos of their success and answering the weekly assignments. Although this is a flexible class with no weekly live set time, I will always be available to arrange a group live video call or for 1:1 questions during office hours. In this course, students will be introduced to the 3x3 Rubik's Cube and learn the basics for completing each layer in a series of engaging and interactive lessons. There are mental, physical and emotional benefits to learning to solve the Rubik's cube for children and we will explore those benefits together. Instead of using confusing algorithms, I engage my cubing students by teaching each layer using fun and interactive stories that will help them to remember when they go to solve independently. First, students will have the opportunity to explore their cube and get a feel for how it moves and the differences in each piece/side, as well as the basic foundational Rubik's Cube vocabulary. Next, students will watch as I demonstrate the step and follow along as I explain the directions in story form. We will then try that step together. Finally, students will have the opportunity to try it on their own. We will continue that "I do, We do, You do" teaching method for each step until the students are confident and ready to put it all together and complete their cube! The Rubik's Cube is the perfect solution for kids who love to fidget, enjoy being challenged or who need to improve their executive functioning. By the end of this course, learners will have gained the confidence and satisfaction of being able to independently solve the Rubik's Cube which will increase their confidence, promote problem-solving, improve their focusing abilities and strengthen their listening skills, specifically with multi-step directions! Step 1: Introduction to the 3x3 Rubik's Cube Step 2: Building the Foundation for Layer 1 (the white plus sign +) Step 3: Completing Layer 1 (the white top with matching Ts) Step 4: Solving to Complete Layer 2 (halfway done!) Step 5: Building the Foundation for Layer 3 (the yellow plus sign +) Step 6: Solving for the Yellow Corners Step 7: Flip & Finish Layer 3 - Cube Complete!! Remember, learning to solve the Rubik's Cube doesn't happen overnight. It takes dedication, determination, perseverance, and lots of practice!!
