Cubes in Space Academy Flexible Schedule- Aerospace Science & Engineering Course

A 9-week course introducing students to aerospace science and engineering design processes essential to conduct research and designing experiments to fly on a real NASA mission to space in the summer of 2022 with the Cubes in Space program.

Class experience

-high school science teacher 14 years (Earth Science, Oceanography)
-taught geology labs at community college 2 years (Physical Geology, Historical Geology, Oceanography)
-designed, managed and taught aerospace education programs for NASA for 7 years
-founder and creator of Cubes in Space program, global engineering design contest in partnership with NASA and the Colorado Space Grant Consortium (2014 to present)
-Recipient of numerous NASA awards:  NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center -  Robert H. Goddard Exceptional Achievement Team Award for the creation and development of the Virginia Space Coast Scholars program; NASA’s Langley Research Center - Director's Award for Creativity, Teamwork, and Innovation, for exceptional leadership and innovation in developing the Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars Program into a nationally renowned NASA-STEM program; NASA’s Langley Research Center - Team Award for the Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars Program; Virginia Math and Science Coalition Programs that Work Award
For the Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars program.  
-Universities Space Research Association - Science and Engineering Education Council, Chairperson (2014-present)
-Virginia Aerospace Business Association - Educational Outreach Committee
Materials needed: (an updated list will appear in the course.  Most items you will find around your house or can purchase at the dollar store with the exception of a the digital scale)
-Notebook - at least composition notebook size or larger
-Scissors
-Tape, double-sided tape or glue stick
-Ruler
-Protractor (you will also be provided one you can print)
-Color pencils/crayons
-Color markers (optional)
-Drinking straws
-String/twine/yarn
-Small “Dixie” cups or small styrofoam cups (not needed until week 6)*
-Large helium-filled balloon (not needed until week 6)* 
-Access to kitchen or mail digital scale* (not needed until week 6) (Walmart and Amazon have them for around $10 with a great return policy)
-Dried rice or mixed dried beans* (not needed until week 6)

*Indicate a hands-on activity that is optional.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
