This is the first in a series of fun lessons about cryptids. We will talk and learn about the Loch Ness Monster, "Champ", and the St. John's River Monster. We will explore photos, history of sightings, DNA sampling, and hoaxes. The class is interactive, with short videos interspersed throughout the lesson. No background knowledge is needed to explore the world of Nessie, Champ and John. This is an enjoyable summer course that involves critical thinking, imagination and participation. Join the fun!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! Fun fact about me: My first teaching job was in North Africa, and my second one was on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. I have a masters degree in education, and 20 years of experience as a classroom teacher. I believe my love of teaching is evident and contagious. I support and encourage students to reach their potential. I create a safe environment that will challenge all students of varying levels and learning styles. I have mostly taught middle school (11-14 year olds), with extensive experience in reading, world history, science, and language arts classes. My greatest pleasures have been in the teaching of world history, particularly in communicating how the melding of various ancient cultures and religions has shaped the world that we inhabit today.
I also recognize that teaching goes well beyond what a student learns in the classroom, and I strive to make each child successful both academically and socially. While I realize that these ambitions are difficult to achieve in an online format, I have some ideas that i suspect will work. I strive to inspire my students to become lifelong learners and to understand that education extends well beyond classroom learning, serving as a means to open doors to opportunities in life.
