In this one time class, students will learn how to crochet multiple pieces in the round and combine them to make a three-dimensional object with a wooden base. Students should already know how to create a basic chain of crochet stitches, single crochet, and how to finish off a piece. I will review the beginner stitches of crochet: chain and single chain. I will introduce crocheting in the round using increases, The Magic Ring, half double crochet stitch, assembling multiple pieces, and picot...
Students will learn to create a 3D project using crocheting in the round, the proper method of increasing stitches, and putting a picot edging on a finished piece. Students will also learn how to start a piece in the round using The Magic Ring.
I have taught high school art for ten years and have a Master of Art Education. Before my career as a teacher, I was a professional graphic designer for five years for the Love Advertising agency and the Houston Chronicle. Students will be actively crocheting with me, and I recommend the parent complete the base unless your child is familiar with using a drill. I do not believe this is a sensitive or high-risk topic but have made every effort to be transparent with all expectations in this course.
At home, students will finish the second and third tier of the tree. Parents should assist in creating the wood base as this involves using a drill.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There is not a formal assessment for this class.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
We will not be viewing or discussing anything of a prohibitive nature. I remind all students before class that comments during the discussion are to be kept positive. The use of a power drill is needed to create the wooden base. I advise that the parent completes this step, but it is a great way to introduce your child to power tool safety.
