In this multi-day class students will learn how to make a granny square and turn it into a unique Christmas stocking. Granny squares have been around for a long time and are a great way to use new yarn as well as older scraps of yarn. Granny square blankets, afghans and stockings are known for their bright colors and simple borders. I teach using a "tell, show, do, feedback" method similar to the gradual release models used in schools. I will teach how to do chains, slip stitch, single and double crochet, how to attach our squares together and finish with a nice simple border. Class 1: Get to know each other, introduction to materials and stitches, begin granny squares. Class 2: Make our granny squares & start assembling. Class 3: Finish assembling and crochet the boarder/top of stocking. *While no previous experience is needed in making a granny square stocking, knowledge of how to make a slip knot and magic circle is helpful. I typically use a simple acrylic yarn for my granny squares but students/parents can choose yarns that fit in their budgets or use scraps they have available. All levels of crocheters are welcome.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Florida Gulf Coast University
Hello & Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in my classes and in me. I have my Bachelor's of Art: Fine Art from Florida Gulf Coast University, go Eagles! After four years of teaching visual arts and three years of teaching online, I am excited for every opportunity to teach young learners and help them grow. My classroom is one that is open and friendly, accepting of everyone regardless of skill level or knowledge, promotes creativity, and inspires learners to continue to learn. I love that "aha" moment when something we are learning clicks and a students eyes light up.
I am open to creating classes to meet the needs of students. Share your excitement and ideas! I love all medium: drawing, painting, sculpting, fiber arts and digital design. I also love cooking from scratch.
I try to tie in the history of the arts as I teach so that it builds a background for what we are learning. If we are learning about Surrealism, we might digitally travel to Spain and learn about the history of Salvador Dali and tour his museum. Then we will create a dream journal and our own artistic creations based on the style of the movement. I want my classes to inspire students of all ages to create.
I have always had a passion for the arts, traveling and gaming. I have been a gamer and have enjoyed tabletop games like GURPS and D&D, as well as online platforms like World of Warcraft and Asheron's Call.
I hope to have the opportunity to meet your learner soon! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
