Class Experience

In this one-time class, students will learn to make single and double crochet stitches. These are a couple of the most commonly used stitches in crochet patterns and are essential in many projects.

PLEASE NOTE: This class is suitable for students who know how to hold the hook and yarn, make slip knot and chain stitches . If your learner needs to learn those skills please enroll in this class first:

In this class I will quickly refresh students on making a slip knot and chain stitches. Then, students will learn about turning chains and turning their work, followed by learning single crochet stitches. Next, we will cover double crochet stitches. I will demonstrate each stitch multiple times as needed. I will also work with each student individually as much as possible to help them get through each step.

I'm very patient and calm and do my best to give each student plenty of time and attention.

Students will be able to talk among themselves and ask questions. I only mute students if it is absolutely necessary.

If students are late I will wait at least 15 minutes, then I will leave the class if no one has joined the class.

I'm excited to be able to help students learn this timeless craft that has been a lifelong and much loved hobby for me. I hope to see you soon!!

🌸 Hello! It’s so nice to meet you. I’m currently teaching the wonderful craft of crochet here on Outschool. I’ve been crocheting since I was a little girl and I still get excited about every new project I start! What makes me even happier is to see the excitement on the faces of learners when they learn to crochet themselves.
🌸I recently completed my B.A. degree in Clerical Education and I am a certified ESL teacher with a 120 hour TESOL Certificate. I’ve been a reading tutor and have taught English to many children. I've also been enrolled for many years in a training program that involves volunteering to teach people of all ages.
🌸 When my grown children were young, I enjoyed home-schooling them for part of their education. I fully support the idea of home-schooling and the appreciate the dedication of families who are able to do it.
🌸 I love crochet, crafts, sewing, cooking and organic gardening ...anything creative.
🌸 My philosophy when teaching children is to encourage and support them as much as possible, while being sure to patiently and kindly correct them when they make mistakes. I feel that there are no mistakes in my class....only opportunities to learn. I am a fan of alternative learning philosophies that allow for learners to explore their interests, learn progressively at their own level, include plenty of physical activity, and other ideas that seem to be absent in the typical classroom.
🌸 I was very shy when I was little, so I understand when students need time to warm up to new people.
🌸 I have some experience working with people with disabilities, such as autism. They have a special place in my heart along with elderly people.
🌸 My husband and I have 13 lovely backyard chickens that we enjoy taking care of. We always feed the squirrels in our back yard (along with stray cats and birds too!) and the squirrels sometimes tap on the glass door to ask for peanuts.
🌸 I’m excited to be a part of the Outschool community and I can’t wait to meet you!
